Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a specialized training program designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective medical care in remote outdoor environments where access to professional medical assistance may be limited or delayed. This course emphasizes the principles of improvisation, patient stabilization, and resourcefulness in wilderness settings, preparing participants to respond confidently to a wide range of medical emergencies encountered during outdoor adventures..
Topics Includes:
- Patient Assessment and Stabilization: Participants will learn to assess and stabilize patients in wilderness environments, including techniques for managing traumatic injuries, environmental emergencies, and medical conditions.
- Wound Management and Infection Control: Instruction on wound cleaning, dressing, and infection prevention using limited resources commonly found in outdoor settings.
- Fracture and Sprain Management: Techniques for splinting and immobilizing fractures and sprains using improvised materials.
- Environmental Emergencies: Training in recognizing and treating environmental emergencies such as hypothermia, heat exhaustion, dehydration, and altitude sickness.
- Medical Emergencies: Instruction on managing medical emergencies including allergic reactions, asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, and seizures.
- Evacuation and Patient Transport: Strategies for safely evacuating and transporting patients in wilderness environments, including improvised carrying techniques and emergency signaling methods.
